Question and Answers for the Cavalier

  • Are Cavaliers good with children?

  •  Absolutely!  Cavaliers feel that every stranger is a friend or potential one.  They love everyone and are a full family pet. This is about the only dog I would truly trust with children. Apart from that the Cavalier truly believes they are human and not a dog and will line up with the children when they are called.

  • Are they good with seniors?
Retirees, or "empty nesters," find the companionship, temperament, small size and easy maintenance ideal.
  • How long do they live?
They say up to 15 years.    They live a long time and need stability as much as you do. Due to the link with tooth decay and heart disease I tell all my new moms to brush their teeth each day.

  • Do they bark a lot or are they yippy like many small dogs?

.  They do sound off when someone comes to the door or they see a squirrel that taunts them outside. But on the whole they are pretty good.

  • Are they an outdoor dog?
No they are not. They love to be outside with you walking or playing but due to the fact being a Toy Breed to cold to hold is very harmful.

  • This is the same for most toy breed. My personal opinion no dog should be left out in the elements.

  • Do they get along with cats?
Yes they do I find they get along with all animals. We have a Parrot and the pay no attention to him even though he is so noisy.

  • Are they easy to potty train?
With basic techniques, consistency, patience and love, it’s a rather fast process.  There nature is to please you in all respects.

  • Male or Female?
Cavaliers do not have the normal aggressive male behavior.  Both the male and female are loving, kind and dedicated.  When you neuter your male it should solve any  problems.  All responsible pet owners should neuter/spay their pets.

  • The Cavalier is just as comfortable hiking or vegging out on the sofa with you

  •  Do Cavaliers like to travel?
Yes they do. They love to jump in the car to take a ride. My guys are great and don't move. I would advise that you get a car harness for them or a car seat.

  • We both work.  Will the Cavalier do well?
If you both work and are gone 9-10 hours a day this is not the dog for you.  The Cavalier is a companion dog and does not do well when left alone.  It must have companionship and interaction to be mentally healthy.  Actually, just like a person.  The dog cannot be kenneled for your convenience.  If you work a full time job and no one is home, possibly you should wait for a Cavalier.  You would not enjoy the dog and the dog can’t enjoy you.  This is just something else to look forward to with retirement. Or purchase two so they have company

  • What are the colors?
The most popular and common is the Blenheim.  Blenheim is white and a rich ruby color.    Tri-color is black, tan and white.   .  Ruby is pure ruby.  A miss-marked ruby will have a very little white on the head or chest.  No difference in quality of the temperament or dedication.  only   Black and tan is pure black and tan appropriately marked.  The Blenheim and tri are commonly referred to as party colors and the ruby and black and tan are whole.

  • Is this the breed called "the ultimate snob dog"?

Yes, an article appeared in Town and Country Magazine a few years ago. The title referred to the attitude of owners, not the Cavaliers. It was mentioned that Monarchs, Presidents, Captains of Industry and Movie Stars own Cavaliers. Further the fact that puppies are sometimes hard to find contributed to the title. Further, prospective puppy buyers are often surprised by the "third-degree" administered by breeders trying to determine their suitability to owning a Cavalier.

  • What people do well with a Cavalier?

The Cavalier has been the companion of choice to high stress people for 400 years. Every crowned head of England had one as a companion as a child, as did many in the Dutch court.   The Cavalier has a calming effect on many people. Stress reduction/relaxation can be noticeably felt when a Cavalier curls up peacefully on a lap.

  • Are they good guard dogs?
No. While the Cavalier will alert his owner to an arrival of someone new, they seem to regard all strangers as friends they haven't met yet. Although a noisy greeting may be enough to ward off a prowler, it would be difficult picturing anyone being scared off by a Cavalier.

IS SHIPPING REALLY SAFE?
Yes, only flights specifically setup to accommodate live animals will even accept a booking. The aircraft must be heated, AC, and pressurized with airflow. There are also weather and temperature restrictions. The animals are the last ones on the plane and the first off. We ship at approximately 12 weeks of age.

A note from me Please be careful where you purchase your puppy from.

I have been told of dreadful nightmare experiences that people have been put through because they choose to go with a cheaper breeder.

This puppy will be with you for many years to come so remember a good breeder will purchase her foundation stock from champion bloodlines this is not to boast but to get the very best of health she can get to produce the perfect puppy for you and your family. The Cavalier has enough health problems going on don't make it worse by buying from a not so good breeder because you are saving a few Dollars remember you get what you pay for in the end.
